K N Tripathi, Governor of West Bengal To Hold Additional Charge of Tripura

  • According to a statement issued by Rashtrapati Bhavan, Governor of West Bengal Keshari Nath Tripathi was given additional charge of Tripura on June 7, 2018.
  • Tripathi will be undertaking the charges, in addition to his own in the absence of Tripura Governor Tathagata Roy

Anupam Kher to Receive Lifetime Achievement honour at IIFA

  • Veteran film actor Anupam Kher would be given lifetime achievement honour at the upcoming International Indian Film Academy Award to be held in Bangkok
  • The award will be presented on June 24, 2018 at the 19th International Indian Film Academy Award (IIFA)
  • The 63 year old veteran actor has worked in more than 500 films spanning across several languages in both India and abroad in the past three decades.

Myanmar & United Nations Sign Pact Regarding Steps of Rohingya Return

  • On June 06, 2018, Myanmar and UN agencies signed an agreement, which could lead to the return of approximately 700,000 Rohingyas, who fled the country and is now residing in makeshift Bangladeshi camps.
  • Notably, the security force of Myanmar has been accused of rape, torture, murder and burning of Rohingya homes in the western Rakhain district
  • US and UN agencies have termed the attack as ethnic cleansing, which first started in August 2017.

President Ram Nath Kovind Inaugurates 73 km Long National Highway in Tripura

  • On June 07, 2018, President Ram Nath Kovind inaugurated a 73 km long national highway from Matabari (Udaipur) to Sabroom along the Gomati and South Tripura district.
  • On this occasion, the President mentioned that the infrastructure is an important part in development of any state.
  • He also mentioned that the Union Government is working on various projects under its ‘Act East’ policy.

Union Government Constitutes Group To Suggest Changes in SEZ Policy

  • The Union Government has constituted a group of eminent persons who will study the Special Economic Zone (SEZ) policy of India.
  • The group is headed by industrialist Baba Kalyani and will suggest measures┬áto cater to the needs of exporters in the present economic scenario and make the SEZ policy WTO compatible. The Group has to submit its recommendation in three months.
  • The SEZ Policy was implemented from 1st April, 2000. Subsequently, the Special Economic Zones Act, 2005 was passed by Parliament in May, 2005 which received Presidential assent on the June 23, 2005 and the Special Economic Zone Act was enacted.
